PASTORAL LETTER FROM STEPHEN FREEMANTLE 7th APRIL 2021

Life doesn’t always go to our plan

Last weekend we celebrated Jesus’s resurrection. Good Friday was the day when we remembered Jesus death on the cross. The Sunday before was the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.

Imagine yourself as one of Jesus followers, the joyful, triumphal procession, the crowds shouting hosanna to the son of David & waving palm branches. A truly wonderful event to be a part of.

Then hearing that they, the crowds had chosen Barabbas over Jesus & that he was sentenced to death on a cross, Jesus was to be crucified.

All of the hopes & dreams that you had, have gone.

In the account of the 2 disciples on the road to Emmaus , they were trying to make sense of what had happened in the last week. There was talk that Jesus was alive, some of the women claimed to of seen him.

Life was not going to plan for the 2 walking to Emmaus, their world had crashed in around them. Where was God in all of this?

The answer is right there walking along with them, only they didn’t recognise him.

As a christian, when I look back over the last year I scratch my head trying to make sense of it all, but I do know that God has been with all of us in the midst of everything.

Stephen
