Bishop’s Waltham United Free Church (BW UFC) held Their annual Faith al Fresco outreach event on Wednesday 29 May on the grass outside the BW Jubilee Hall. Timed to be in the schools’ half term there were plenty of young people to enjoy the bouncy castle, the bacon rolls and the drinks provided by BW UFC.
The event theme was “Who is my neighbour?” and the youngsters acted out the story of the Good Samaritan from the ‘Open the Book’ team. Dressing up was not mandatory but most joined in and wanted to do more acting at the end of their performance (this must be a good way to encourage youngsters!). In all about 100 people, young and not so young, attended our event over the day.
The previous day was very wet but we prayed for fine weather and it couldn’t have been better on the day. Peter’s faith in good weather was amply rewarded.
Many people worked to make the event so successful. Thank you to Peter Castle and Tizz for your talks, and the ‘Open the Book’ team. A special ‘Thank You’ to Tony for carrying the burden of 94 bacon butties, which is 10kg of bacon! Thanks to Margaret, Helen and Jane for the craft tent which looked really busy. Tom was manning the prayer tent; a really visible encouragement for people to pray and demonstrates what we are really all about. Liz Hague hosted a splendid display of ‘Helping our neighbour’. Several ladies were serving in the food tent; thank you all who helped make the day a great success again this year.
Donations were passed to Home-Start Hampshire. Margaret Moane from the charity was there with a stall to tell people about Home-Start. We finally raised £100 for ‘Home-Start Hampshire’.
